Hello team! As you may be aware, I do a weekly post for Yahoo Lifestyle as their resident Girl On The Ground. Our latest Yahoo opus was our How To Do Winter Layers and it was SOOO much fun to shoot as we just decided to do it ourselves!
In this cold weather, time is of the essence and if you don't know what you're doing then you could end up running around, buying the extra bits you left at home and generally feeling exhausted before the day is up!
Here's a little behind-the-scenes look at last week's shoot and my top tips for a successful blogger day out!
Tip 1 - Decide exactly which items you're going to shoot and the shots that you need. For ultimate efficiency, work out if you can get another post out of the same shoot.
For example, for our Winter Layers fashion post we wanted full length shots and accessory closeups. We also decided to shoot our upcoming Red Lips feature at the same time - so we also wanted beauty close ups in natural light - and we just wore the lipsticks as part of our outfits!
Tip 2 - Pick a multi-use location. For varied shots, a location with lots of different set ups will save you travelling between locations.
Our Winter Layers post was shot at Oxford Circus - perfect for busy London streets, quiet cobbled roads and stately looking doors. It's also home to every shop we could possibly need for last minute purchases!
Tip 3 - Bring spares and supplies!
Wet wipes, tripods, touchup makeup, portable lighting, batteries - I sported as much as I could in a large canvas bag and Annie even had a suitcase!
For the sake of carrying one more thing, you really can make the whole day go a lot smoother (and cheaper!)
Tip 4 - Have a great post-shoot plan
Having a 'deadline' to work to keeps you on track and is a great reward for your efforts. We met up with the fabulous FashionWorked - my International Blogger Of Mystery - for a spot of lunch. And by lunch, I mean guilty, greasy GLORY.
It was absolutely brilliant to finally meet FW, having been tweeting at him for the best part of a year. That, and the fact that he is notably mysterious and I finally know what he looks like!
You can see what went down at his blog FashionWorked but it involved burgers, beauty talk, the pros and cons of neoprene and Dr Zeuss. AKA the BEST blogger interview ever.
My final tip - if you're no good at being organised.... bring a blogger who is!
I had an absolutely fantastic shoot team in Annie (epiphanniea.co.uk) and Goodowl (thegoodowl.co.uk) and I'm pleased as punch with the results! Keep up with more of our collabs on Yahoo Lifestyle here
This is first time that I've been photographed by an actual person other than my mum, and it was SO much fun! Beats a tripod and a remote anyday.... especially if it ends up with an Honest Burger every time..
Who wants to come shoot with us next time?!
Any tips for a successful blogger photoshoot?
