What I Wore To Work: Smart Style Ideas For Long Hair

Hi Team! So today's What I Wore To Work is probably a bit of a cop-out as it's not a full-on fashion outfit and it actually only features one piece. (It's been a busy few weeks, this is the best I can do at the moment, bwaah.)

My previous Workwear posts have always been about the outfit, the key looks, the investment pieces but I' realised that I've never covered the hair much before. And why not? I'm a beauty blog after all, so what about beauty in the workplace?

Today's smart style is all about the hair. It's easy to do, easy to prepare - it's a variation on the classic high-pony - there's texture and movement through the lengths, and of course, a giant preppy bow on top! Channelling Alicia Silverstone in Clueless!

I have to start by confessing- I LOVE TARTAN!! I don't know what it is about tartan but I bladdy laahv the stuff and, in case you couldn't tell, I'm genuinely zero percent Scottish. Maybe this is how Vivienne Westwood feels about it - did you know she's not remotely Scottish either? I always assumed she was!

This beautiful Tartan Bow is from Forever21. I can't even remember what I did before Forever21, their accessories range is incredible!(well, obviously I can remember pre-Forever21 as I'm not 12, but you know what I mean)

Clipped into the top of you ponytail, it lends a smart and polished look. POLISHED is the keyword of today's look. Perfect for work, especially when you're not feeling so polished inside.. I swear I always talk about being hungover, it's not like I'm permanently drunk or anything OKAY?

SPOT THE BOW...!

We're keeping this look modern and not too "pretty" by adding movement into the hair. On a straight ponytail, this bow might look too serious or even too schoolgirl. The high pony position is already quite severe so let's relax the vibe by adding some waves.

Face Value Tip: There should be movement in the pony, but not at the roots - use a comb to get a super sleek finish up-top!

I'm trying to cut down on heat-styling during the week, so I've actually got the texture by applying Joico Structure Beach Spray in the ponytail and then twisting it up in a bun whilst I get ready.

I've then finished the hair with a bit of Percy & Reed Eau My Goodness Shine & Fragrance Spray which is basically a really perfumed shine spray - it does a good job, without making the hair oily.

So there we go, today's dreamy yet polished ponytail. How do you wear your hair to work?

Any tartan-fiends out there? Or do you prefer another print?
