Replacing Holiday Rules With Real-Life Beauty Tips

Aren't holidays the best?!?! Great weather, great company and a great chance to debut your summer wardrobe. Finally, the chance to wear ALLL those items which wouldn't last in English weather and ALLLL the makeup which only looks good with a tan.

Saying that, having just come back from a short Spanish break, I've realised that there are so many things which we're "supposed" to do on holiday which, IN REAL LIFE we don't end up doing because - let's face it - it's too hot or we can't be bothered.

Know what I mean? Read on.

Let's start with the hair.

The magazines constantly show beautiful long-haired models with impeccable beachy waves and soft golden highlights. Summer perfection right? Wrong.

REAL LIFE BEAUTY VERSION?

In hot weather, long hair essentially becomes a woollen cape around your shoulders, trapping the heat and reducing circulation to your neck.

I just want to wear my hair in a bun, like ALL the time. Especially if you've got dark hair which absorbs the heat. A high bun is perfect as it allows whatever breeze there is to reach your neck and it keeps everything dry when you go for a quick dip.

(I don't know about you but, for me, wet hair on hot skin quickly becomes a damp animal clinging desperately on your back.) So BUN IT UP guys - it's the only way forward! It doesnt have to be boring either, scrunchies are back in, hooray - or use flowers or bows to add a bit of colour.

Ditching your Michael Kors leather tote in favour of a Primark canvas bag is ALLOWED.  Look at the picture below, look how free I am, see how happy I am!?

Yup - I spent big birthday dollars on my latest Kors but, as the temperatures soar, the last thing I want to carry is a heavy (albeit beeeautiful) sack of leather.

Leather gets a bit sticky in the heat, especially when dangled in the crook of your arm. I exchanged mine one day for one of those canvas bags you see in the queue at Primark and boy-oh-boy, every day after that I just used the canvas bag.

The Primark bag was 10 times lighter and perfect for chucking in bottles of water, scarfs and other items which you just can't stuff into a structured leather bag. New holiday essential, right there.

Not wearing those block heels which you insisted on buying because they're comfy (as high heels go)  and abandoning them in favour of flip flops and slip ons. Even for nice evening dinners!

So a couple months ago I bought this lovely pair of block heeled sandals from M&S. They're quite sensible right? And actually quite comfortable! I brought them to Spain but - here's the confession-  I didn't end up wearing them at all..!

In fact, I ended up wearing a pair of 5 Euro sandals which were the comfiiiiiest sandals ever. I wore them to the pool, I wore them to dinner, I didn't take the block heels out once. And it was the comfiest, most blister free holiday ever! Moral of the story? Don't bother lugging heels with you unless you really ARE going to wear them - your baggage allowance on cheap Euro flights is limited as it is!

Everyone talks about 'going au naturel' on the beach (face-wise, calm down!) but I just couldn't tear myself away from foundation. Even despite buying a BB cream especially for hols.

For the stronger-willed amongst you, you should check out my Natural Summer Skin special. But for foundation freaks like me, I think the rules should be changed from"natural skin" to "natural looking skin"

The BB cream may as well have stayed at home, I wore my Lancome Teint Visionnaire foundation every single day! Why not?! It has SPF30, it looks glowy and it gave the coverage and colour I wanted throughout the whole day. Not even sorrry.

So there we go,  forget about the standard summer beauty tips we're told - these beauty solutions are a bit more practical!

Can you relate to any of these? And have you got any more real-life beauty tips for my next summer holiday?
