Hi team! Little skin moan today. I don't know about you, but when I get spots, they ALWAYS leave behind a small scar. Even when I resist from touching it!
I've been producing a video about my skincare routine and one of my main skincare concerns is how to get rid of acne scars and dark marks. Oh yeah, and prevent any spots from coming back! I'm in my twenties, I'm not meant to get spots anymore!!
So in February, I had a Lightenex facial at The Hyperpigmentation Clinic to try and even out my skintone. Following on from then, I've been using the Acnex pigmentation cream to keep up the attack on my acne scars and also prevent acne from returning. But what were the results like?
First of all, let's talk pigmentation - if you dun know yet, get to know! The first step in dealing with skin issues is to understand why they happen. Check out the science part in my Lightenex pigmentation post.
What is Acnex?
Acnex is a cream which has been designed by the Pharmaclinix brand to clear existing acne, prevent new breakout, reduce blackheads and fade post-blemish pigmentation.
Apparently it can reduce acne by up to 82% in 8 weeks! Fortunately, I've now moved out of my miserable, self-concious spotty phase but I decided to use Acnex in order to reduce the dark marks and prevent new breakouts.
The important stuff - did it work?
I was really keen to give this a fair trial so I used this for the full 8 weeks.
The cream tingled quite a lot at first so initially I only applied it at night and, as my skin got used to it, I was using it twice a day.
After 8 weeks, I noticed:
- Significantly less breakouts, even around THAT time of the month
- Slight fading of acne marks - but only really visible to me
- Minimal fading of freckles
Judge for yourself, here are the (*shudder* makeup-free) BEFORE and AFTER photos!
As you can see, my freckles are slightly lighter, relatively unaffected but the centre of my face is more even and red marks are reduced.
After a while, I went back to using this only at night. If used under makeup, the Acnex cream has a tendency to ball up if not fully dried, so it's not suitable to be used as a priming moisturiser.
I'm pleased with the overall result - fortunately my pigmentation is not severe but there's been a noted improvement. The only downside is that it took 8 weeks to get there! My advice with this cream, as with most products, is to persevere - you will get there!
At 39.99, this cream is probably one of the priciest creams I'm using. However it's undoubtedly the most powerful cream that I'm using. It smells almost clinical - but it feels like it's working.
If I had more serious pigmentation, I'd definitely buy this Acnex cream but given that my acne scars are already years old and definitely on their way out, I now only use this cream nightly, near THAT time of the month... and I'm already grumpy enough then without having spots to contend with!!
So what do you think? Notable difference or no difference?
