Undo The Damage: Dove Intensive Repair Self Warming Hair Mask

Heat styling, Hair colouring and Backcombing are like the three horsemen of the Hair Apocalypse to me. And when it comes to judgement time, I bet my hair will be pronounced by the Beauty Gods as an over processed, split-ended mess. Oh noes. But is there anything I can do to prevent the end of my hair as I know it?

PERHAPS. Today I'm seeking penance in the name of Dove Intensive Repair Self Warming Mask which is designed to strengthen and revive damaged hair from the inside out. Billed as 'the hair hero we've been waiting for', it uses heat to restore shine and gloss and is meant to leave hair up to TEN times more resilient against future damage. Ten times!

I was lucky enough to be sent the Intensive Repair Mask to try but was it a hair hero........or a hair zero?

First Thoughts.

When I first got it, I was a bit like - is that it mate? The mask doesn't look like much at first - a capsule of water at best.

However, once I opened it, I realised that it's actually two parts - the crystal capsule is a Heat Activating Serum and it comes with a larger sachet which contains the Regenerating Treatment Mask.

The rules say to apply the treatment mask first, after you've used shampoo. As with most masks, it should be applied mainly to lengths and ends, avoiding roots. Nothing out of the ordinary so far.

Next - the Heat Activating Serum. Now THIS is where the magic happens. Once I applied the serum on top of the mask, I started to feel a warming heat on the hair - reminds me a bit of a self warming face wash I once had from Biore.

Question! What is the point of the heat? The heat actually helps to open the hair cuticle so that the treatment mask can really get down to business, where it matters.

This is definitely one to turn the shower off for, it took me a couple of minutes to apply the mask and thennn the capsule and thennnn you're meant to leave it on for 3 minutes. aka The perfect amount of time for exactly one rendition of your favourite shower song. (My most popular shower songs are Robyn- Dancing On My Own, the Ann Hathaway song from Les Mis and Adele- Rolling In The Deep - oh yeahhh)

The results.

After the blow dry, my hair felt incredibly soft and lightweight - more so than if I'd just used conditioner.

I can't tell whether it repaired any split ends as my hair had recently been trimmed but my hair definitely felt more 'sealed' and healthier.

I really like this mask - it's somewhere between a hot oil treatment and a hair mask. RRP is £4.99 but I've seen it for £3.99, I would definitely buy this self-warming mask again for 3.99 - but not weekly, maybe a monthly treat?

I say monthly because I think it would be a bit of a faff to do every week - as a beauty product fiend, I loooove me a bit of high maintenance faff but I doubt my friends (who have healthier attitudes to hair maintenance) will want to do this every week.

What do you think about the mask then? How much time do you dedicate to your hair and how often do you use hair masks?

Do you love yourself a bit of faff too? Or is it just me.....?
