Straight talking about going big: John Frieda Straight Ahead and Luxurious Volume

My general motto used to be "cover and conceal" but now, I'm all about getting the basics right. I think its a sign that I'm growing up and becoming more responsible with my beauty routine.. Either that, or I've just got a LOT more time on my hands?

Don't answer that.

I normally spend a lot of money on styling products and not so much on shampoo but I've realised that not caring as much about the shampoo you use is like not caring about the moisturiser you put on your skin. Get your basics right first!

As with different creams and different skin types, there are different shampoos for different hair types and it seems there is a John Frieda range out there for almost everything!

What's in the box??

I was sent the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Ahead Shampoo & Straight Ahead Conditioner.  They're designed to tame nightmare frizz whilst aligning the hair for hydrated, straight & frizz-free hair. Tick. Tick. Sounds good! But how was it?

Let me be straight with you...

To be honest, my hair's pretty much naturally straight so even I was thinking HOW CAN I REVIEW THIS? But, but, but! There's definitely something different about this shampoo...

The first thing I noticed about the shampoo was how well it lathers. It feels really luxurious and full of dense bubbles. I hope other John Frieda Shampoos are like this too!

Secondly -  the bun test. Normally when I put my hair in a bun, it comes out all  deliciously wavy - see example below.

Wavy hair post-bun normally

However, after using the Straight Ahead Shampoo and Conditioner for a week, my hair doesnt stay in a bun for as long without coming undone and when i take it down, it's far less curly!

My hair did actually seem less frizzy too -  slightly more slippery? (In a nice protected way, not like a kipper or anything)  I guess that's the silicone in it which seals your hair to prevent frizz and protect from humid weather.

Try it today for no more nightmare frizz - I would love to see how this works on girls with curlier hair - I'm going to give it to my friends and will report back!

Not wanting a straight style?

Two other products sent to me were from the Luxurious Volume range. I was so excited about this - it's a relatively new range to me and for regular readers of Face Value Beauty Blog, you will know that I am ALLLLLL about the va-va-volume.

Fine to Full Blowout spray is meant to emulate the shape of a salon-blow dry by plumping hair from root to tip.  I also tried Blow-Dry Lotion Root Booster which is designed to lift hair at the roots, whilst thickening strands for natural volume.

First up - I really loved the spray nozzle -  this may seem like nothing of importance to you but I've used a lot of blowdry sprays and none of them diffused through the hair as easily as this one. It makes the Blow-Out Spray easy to apply and spread through the hair - it gave my hair that strong, bouncy, protected feel. Yay.

In terms of volume, I did notice a slight difference in body when using the Fine to Full Blowout spray, but not really as much as some other products I have.... Hmm.

The Blow-Dry Lotion Root Booster unfortunately wasn't heavy duty enough to lift my heavy locks at all. I sprayed it in the roots, turned my head upside down and even tried my extra special Zoe Dubs volume method which involves lifting the whole top section layer by layer and blasting the roots. Nothing. Nada.

It was very lightweight though - and my hair didnt feel overloaded even when I sprayed a good half a bottle of the Root Booster into my locks to try and get a result.

Will it work for you?

The touchable volume concept behind these products is great - and I really wanted these to work for me but I think they're not right for my hair type. I've got normal to thick hair - I'm talking weighty 18 inch strands and this is definitely designed for finer and lighter hair in comparison

I really think that it might work for my short or fine-haired friends though - especially the Fine to Full Blowout Spray so if you'd like to give these a good home, LEAVE ME A COMMENT below and I'll share the love!

You should check out the rest of the Luxurious Volume range - there are shampoos and styling products for touchably soft natural volume - but the finer-haired ladies will be the ones seeing the most results. Sulk.

Have you ever tried a hair product that just did nothing on you, but wonders on someone else?

Are you a va-va-volume girl too, or more about the natural bounce?
